VDM E-Bike/Bicycle Safety Courses & Permits 2026-2027
With an increasing number of students relying on e-bicycles and bicycles as their transportation to and from school, ensuring their safety on the road is a top priority for our schools. This collaborative program is a proactive approach designed to address safety concerns and to promote responsible riding practices (reference CUSD Board Policy)
The safety course was created by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The CHP partnered with CUSD on this program. The safety video was created by a Providence Mission Hospital Trauma physician. CUSD is excited to collaborate with the CHP & Providence Mission Hospital on this important public safety initiative.
We are also piloting an additional “behind the wheel” safety course, orchestrated by our School Resource Officer. Select students and guardians will be required to attend to complete this course along with the other requirements. This course is a requirement for the following families:
-
Students who have received an e-bike violation the previous year
(an administrator will contact you if you are in this category)
-
All students 5th grade or below
-
Volunteer families who would like their child to complete the course
The course will be offered in-person during registration week from 8-11am, Monday- Thursday, August 10th-13th in 30-minute increments. There will also be intermittent diversion courses offered throughout the school year to qualify for a permit. You must RSVP for a course with Monica Gallo mogallo@capousd.org and she will confirm your application date and time during school office hours starting July 24th, 2026.
The following must be completed prior to receiving a bike permit to ride to and from school premises for the 2026-2027 school year:
